€30m Fund available for upgrade of Sports Facilities
Fine Gael Kildare South TD, Martin Heydon, has today (Wednesday) warmly welcomed the announcement by Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring of a €30m fund for important sports capital projects.
Heydon said “I am delighted that for the first time since 2008, sports clubs in Kildare who had hoped to develop their facilities will be given the opportunity to apply for funding. The provision of such a fund at a time of national austerity and scarcity of funds clearly demonstrates this Government’s commitment to sports participation and local sporting organisations and will be hugely welcomed.”
“In line with the Programme for Government, this new Sports Capital scheme will have a stronger focus on projects which increase active participation in sport, particularly in disadvantaged areas. Under this scheme pitches will be drained, floodlights will be installed, sports halls will be improved and dressing rooms will be built.”
I am looking forward to working with many clubs in Kildare to assist them in applying for these grants. Maximum grants of up to €300,000 will be available for local and national clubs and application forms and further details are now available at www.sportscapitalprogramme.ie.
